The Secrets to Designing Data Products - a talk by Chris Downs 15:00 - 15:45

Join us to hear one of the true pioneers of service design - Chris Downs, talking about the secrets to designing data products.

The Secrets to designing data products

According to the Economist, The world's most valuable resource is no longer oil but data. However, we're hopelessly ill-equipped to know how to extract value from it. We lack the tools and language we need in order to innovate valuable data products and services. And at the same time, we are suffering from the absence of an ethical and responsible approach to how we manage it.

Chris co-founded Normally - a research and design studio - in order to develop the tools and techniques needed . Over the last six years, Normally has been dedicated to the development of new tools and processes to extract value from data - and have stumbled into data ethics and stewardship along the way.

In this talk, Chris will introduce the fundamentals of data products and services, share some of Normally's insightful experiments and explain how it is possible to design and build a new generation of data enabled services whilst preserving privacy and providing control to the people who create the data in the first place.
