Community Advisor/Digital Wizard

Alderney’s new Technology and Enterprise Hub has a mission to support and grow Alderney’s business community through technology. The Community Advisor (and local 'Digital Wizard'!) will be based at the Hub premises, in St Anne, Alderney in the British Channel Islands.

The Community Advisor role is an exciting opportunity to help individuals, businesses and the whole island grow and succeed through the use of technology. The role will suit an enthusiastic individual who is self-directed and keen to explore and help others with digital business opportunities. You do not need to be a 'full stack' expert or qualified digital professional, but a genuine curiosity, energy and willingness to learn in this area is essential. The successful candidate will get a unique exposure to the world of technology and start-ups and the satisfaction of helping Alderney grow its community, both online and offline.

Experience/Skills

· Good level of understanding of digital technology and eagerness to learn more. You should already be experienced with MS Office applications or their equivalents, be able to use a range of internet and AI tools, and have a reasonable general understanding of tech development.

· Good time management and attention to detail

· Comfortable meeting new people and communicating via email and telephone

· Comfortable presenting to small or medium-sized groups of people

Responsibilities

o Host and manage the Hub premises and respond to enquiries into the Hub. Provide 1ˢᵗ-line advice and support to businesses and direct to specialists

o Co-ordinate scheduled training and events, develop training materials and deliver basic training within own competence

o Promote the Hub in media and conduct active outreach to encourage participation

o Co-ordinate outbound promotion of Alderney as a place for individuals and businesses to relocate to (primarily social media campaigns but potentially also other channels).

o Act as a point of contact for inbound enquiries for individuals or businesses considering relocating to Alderney. Provide guidance & support and signpost to sources of information and experts who can provide further support.

o Carry out research and work with stakeholders to explore and progress economic growth opportunities. This may include exploring new markets, customer needs, or working with start-ups (training will be given).

o Carry out administration of the Hub including acting as CoSec (training will be given) and managing the website and other digital resources.

 

This role is a fixed-term contract for 12 months (with the likelihood of extension, subject to successful achievement of KPIs). You must be eligible to work in the UK and pass the necessary security screening.

Role Details

· Full time - 40hrs/week

· In-person minimum 4 days a week (in order to host the Hub)

· A degree of flexible working will be possible, working around the need to adequately staff the Hub. Some events may run outside normal office hours (eg occasional evening workshops)

· A small amount of travel may be required (max 1 day/month)

· 20 days holiday/year
