Intensive two-day PR event to help growing demand for creative sector experience. Channel Islands PR agency Black Vanilla is adapting its approach to work experience in response to growing demand from young islanders. In previous years, to provide a beneficial experience to young people, Black Vanilla had limited spaces in its work experience scheme.

However, the growing demand for experience in the PR industry and the general workplace led the agency to develop a unique two-day intensive workshop. Hosted at the GTA, the two days have been orchestrated to help Guernsey’s next generation to learn about the PR and events industry, with sessions on social media, creative content and copywriting. In addition, a careers Q&A will help students understand how they can take different routes into the industry and the skills they need to succeed.

Aimed at sixth formers and university students, the two days will culminate in students planning communications campaigns and pitching to a panel of industry experts and Black Vanilla’s clients.

Itinerary

Day 1

Monday 28th June 9:00-5:00 pm

On day one, students will hear from the Black Vanilla team about the different aspects of the PR world, from communication strategy to create content.

Director of Black Vanilla, Nichole Culverwell will start the session with an introduction to PR, followed by a talk on social media and creative content with Senior Account Executive, Krista Osborne.

Krista will then be joined by Natalie Davidson to talk all things events.

After a lunch break, students will have the opportunity to attend a strategy and campaign planning workshop, with Nichole Culverwell and Account Manager, Chloe Chescoe.

The day will round off with a Q&A with Black Vanilla's Senior Account Executives, Krista, Katie and Chris. This will be an opportunity for students to talk about different paths into PR, what it's like starting out as a junior and listen to advice and experience from Black Vanilla's youngest members.

Day 2

Tuesday 29th June 9:00-5:30 pm

One day two, students will divide into groups and create their own PR campaigns, using tools they learnt from their workshops and talks on the previous day.

The campaigns will involve a press office, a social media plan and an event.

Groups will then present their campaigns to a panel consisting of local PR professionals and Black Vanilla's clients.

There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions to each member of Black Vanilla, so come prepared!

Lunch will be provided.
