Every business starts with an idea. IP rights are powerful tools for FinTech start-ups and SMEs to create economic value and advance their business goals. The 2021 World IP Day campaign shines a light on the critical role of SMEs in the economy and how they can use IP rights to build more competitive and resilient businesses.

Speakers

John Ogier IPAN Chairman.  John will lead a panel of industry, law and university specialists who will explore trends in FinTech and IP rights protection and strategy, followed by a Q&A panel discussion aimed at FinTech entrepreneurs.

Alessandro Hatami Founder of advisory firm Pacemakers

Jane Lambert Barrister practising in IP and technology.  Jane will discuss the decision in FinTech Patents Case Communisis Plc v The TALL Group of Companies Ltd (2020).

Dr Fernando Da Cruz Vasconcellos Valuation Consulting.  He will discuss ‘IP at the forefront of FinTech Start Ups’.

Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen Indiana University.  Professor Xuan-Thao will speak on ‘Developments in using IP rights to secure finance’.

Dr Janice Denoncourt Associate Professor, Nottingham.  Janice will speak on ‘FinTech start-ups, SMEs and the role of corporate governance’.
