The competition, which is powered by First Central Group and organised by the Digital Greenhouse, opened on 14th February and has seen teams of students developing a digital solution to the problem statement 'Declining biodiversity is having a dramatic effect on Guernsey’s environment. How can islanders use technology to have a positive impact on nature?

Join us to see the shortlisted teams presenting their innovative solutions to the judging panel at the Digital Greenhouse. 

Prizes will be awarded for the Best Technical Solution and the Most Innovative Solution.

John Davison

Chief Technology Officer, First Central Group

John is Chief Information Officer of First Central Group. He joined the company as Group Chief Architect in August 2011 with responsibility for developing the business’s internal technical capabilities, particularly online. His wealth of experience has helped them digitise the traditional back-office insurance functions and build our own, more modern and flexible insurance 'suite'.
 
Prior to joining First Central, John spent many years developing innovative solutions for insurers and brokers worldwide, in both commercial and personal lines markets.

Dan Edmunds

Technical Operations Manager of First Central Group

Dan is the IT Technical Operations Manager of First Central Group. Having joined the company as a Senior Software Developer in 2014, Dan has grown with the business to become the Software Development Manager and, more recently, the IT Technical Operations Manager. His highly skilled team provides DevOps capabilities for the in-house insurance platform.

Prior to First Central, Dan has had a varied, engineering based background that has included designing commercial sonar systems to developing high volume e-commerce websites.

Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez

President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure

Lindsay de Sausmarez is the President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure and the Vice-President of the Committee for Employment & Social Security.  She has a long held interest in environmental sustainability and future generations.  She was instrumental in the development of Guernsey’s climate change policy, which includes the Strategy for Nature – protecting and restoring the island’s biodiversity – and enshrines the principles of a circular, green and blue economy.

Her professional background is in the creative industries (mostly media production) and personally she loves any excuse to spend time in Guernsey’s natural environment, land, shore or sea. 

Jack Fletcher

Co-founder of Renew Guernsey

Jack runs sales and customer services at Renew Guernsey, helping convert local homes to renewable energy sources.  With over 15 years experience in sales, operations and customer service, Jack's focus has always been on providing a caring and supportive approach to customer relations.  From understanding the complexities of the installation process, to the importance of clear communication throughout a project.   

His passion for sustainability and protecting the environment has always been his driving values.  Jack is dedicated to educating and promoting renewable energy and sustainable solutions online and in our Island community.  He believes that together the Island can make a positive contribution to the energy transition, to our global environment, and we can all make this positive contribution starting in our homes and businesses.
