Amazon has a peculiar approach to innovation that is intrinsically linked to how they use technology and organise teams. In this session, you’ll be introduced to how innovation is fostered at Amazon. Led by Wayne Soutter and Mike Beaven the event will explore the elements including, culture,  best practices and organisational structure.  You’ll have the chance to dive deeper on various topics, including Leadership Principles, Working Backwards, and 2-Pizza Teams.

Wayne Soutter

Principal Industry Solutions Manager, Amazon Web Services

Wayne Soutter in his role of Principal Industry Solution Manager for EMEA, supports public sector organisations in building and implementing modern business applications that drive cost out of the business and bring the latest technology benefits to the end users.

Wayne has over 20 years experience in designing, developing and deploying disruptive technologies in a range of sectors including finance, education, manufacturing, municipalities and cities across the globe. Wayne spent many years in start-up's some more successful than others! Then he joined Digital Catapult, a UK government initiative to drive innovative technology into business across the UK.

In this role Wayne worked with industry leaders to help them develop technology strategies and GTM’s to take advantage of these emerging technologies and launched London’s first IoT Laboratory.

Finally Wayne joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) to lead their IoT business for Europe, Middle East and Africa before moving into the team he is in today, where he identifies business needs/gaps in the Public Sector space and then works with partners to build solutions to bridge those gaps.

Mike Beaven

Senior Manager, Government Transformation, Amazon Web Services

Mike Beaven leads the International Government Transformation Advisor team at AWS. He has a combination of Public and Private sector digital transformation experience spanning 20 years.

He led the UK Government’s Digital Transformation programmes from 2011 to 2015 as part of the GDS team within the Cabinet Office. This involved establishing new agile ways of working, setting up new commercial frameworks and establishing national cross government programme that delivered 20 new digital services in 400 days.

Mike has also worked in the field of consultancy working on strategic projects in the Public Sector and on large-scale software delivery programmes in the commercial sector.

Starting his career in enterprise infrastructure and working in regulated environments (Financial, Services, Government, Commodity Trading)  Mike has a strong understanding of how to balance governance and risk management with agile delivery and transformation to achieve tangible benefits and results.
