Guernsey business leaders join forces with UK hub Scale Space

Guernsey business leaders join forces with UK hub Scale Space to explore further Fintech opportunities for the Island.

This November saw the first of many opportunities for Guernsey business leaders to meet with, collaborate and learn from a range of industry experts in Fintech.  Made possible through a partnership with the new London innovation campus, Scale Space.  This collaborative relationship will support the further development of Fintech within the Guernsey Financial Services sector.

A new group, focused on Fintech in Guernsey, has been formed in collaboration with Industry, Guernsey Finance, Locate Guernsey and the Digital Greenhouse to drive forward innovation and the use of technology across the island.  The group hosted its first Scale Space session this week with business leaders from Guernsey meeting a range of Fintech experts.  The London session included presentations from cutting-edge startups, trend panels with leading academics from Imperial University, considering themes such as artificial intelligence, automation, emerging fintech opportunities, how to scale platforms and the future of digital banking.

Gilles Chemla, Professor of Finance at Imperial College and Co-Director of the Imperial Centre for Financial Technology, said “We very much look forward to welcoming the Guernsey Fintech Delivery Group to our new Scale Space location and the opportunity to discuss both emerging Fintech trends as well as the potential to drive innovation across the financial services sector more broadly.”

This is an exciting time for Guernsey to foster and drive technology, innovation and collaboration, so as a group we are delighted to have the opportunity to visit Scale Space, to participate in the presentations and to meet and hear from leading Fintech experts.  I would like to thank the Smart Guernsey partnership for making this visit possible.

Access to Scale Space has been made possible and funded through the SMART Guernsey Economic Development Partnership between Agilisys and the States of Guernsey.  Further activities and opportunities are planned through Scale Space across 2022, providing a virtual and physical link into the innovation hub, their programmes, pitch opportunities, R&D with Imperial University and access to their international ecosystem to support business growth.

Lucy Kirby, Director of the Digital Greenhouse commented, "We are extremely pleased to begin what will be a valuable partnership with Scale Space.  Providing opportunities for new and existing businesses to share knowledge and connect into venture building programmes is essential for the continued success of all sectors in Guernsey and we are particularly excited to see how these new collaborations can benefit the growth of Fintech in the Island.”
