First Central welcomes digital intern students

Summer is here! And we’ve welcomed three local students with a keen interest in a digital career to our Guernsey office as part of the Discover Digital Summer Internship scheme.

Set up by the Digital Greenhouse, the scheme provides students who are passionate about digital technology with practical experience in local companies and highlights the variety of exciting and challenging careers in the sector.

Post-16 students Callum Wood, Jared Sarchet and Xavier Ellis will be spending six weeks with our First Central team in Guernsey between 11 July and 19 August, to give them an idea of what life is really like for a software developer in a professional organisation.

Getting stuck in

Growth and wellbeing are key priorities for First Central and we’re proud to deliver a high-quality professional service. The hope is that the students will get stuck into our culture and gain an understanding of the day-to-day tasks involved in a developer’s role.

Dan Edmunds, First Central’s IT Technical Operations Manager, said: “We’re keen to get Callum, Jared and Xavier involved in the project and are looking forward to hearing their creative and innovative ideas. We hope the experience will provide a unique way of learning for them beyond the classroom.

“We’re excited to see what they can do and we’re proud to be a part of their educational journey, and act as a stepping stone to starting a career in technology.”

Xavier Ellis, one of the interns, said: “I decided to apply for the internship because I wanted to experience front-end development at a large, modern company with significant IT infrastructure – not very common on Guernsey. I’m looking forward to working as part of a team and delivering change requirements.”
