Fuelling the Future: Meet the 17-Year-Old Guernsey Entrepreneurs Shaking Up the Sports Drink Industry
Two local teens invested their savings to launch a healthier alternative to sugary fitness beverages.
Here at the Digital Greenhouse, we see a lot of inspiring entrepreneurs with amazing new business ideas.
A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of meeting Henry Chamberlain and Callum Richards, two 17‑year‑old Guernsey students who have been developing a brand-new sports drink designed for young sports enthusiasts.
ChargePlus is a new naturally‑sourced sports drink designed to give young athletes cleaner, healthier performance support.
They’ve invested their own savings, travelled to a UK factory and worked with industry professionals to create a final recipe, branding, packaging concepts, and undertake a full health and safety compliance check.
They now have samples, a production plan, and a clear route to market. They can't reveal too many recipe secrets yet - but ChargePlus drinks will be a naturally sourced, sports energy drink unlike anything currently available.
So why are they doing this? Henry and Callum explain…
“Growing up playing sport in Guernsey, we noticed that most sports drinks are packed with sugar, artificial colours, or ingredients that don’t support long-term health. We wanted to create something cleaner, healthier, and performance focused. There are currently very few drinks available that combine the key ingredients we feel are most valuable pre-workout, so we wanted to create a unique blend so sportspeople no longer need to buy multiple drinks or powders to access the nutrition they need for optimal performance.
“Throughout our teenage years, our parents were reluctant to let us have energy drinks as they perceived these products to be unhealthy. We wanted to challenge this view and create a viable alternative that would satisfy even the most health conscious consumer.
“Entrepreneurship runs in both our families, and studying A-Level Business at the Sixth Form Centre has only strengthened our passion to build something of our own – something positive for young athletes like us.
“Alongside Business Studies, we have gained practical knowledge of exercise and nutrition through years of competing in sports at county level for tennis, padel and squash.
“We know how hard it is to decipher the science behind the latest health craze or ‘buzz’ ingredient. Studying A Level PE, Exercise and Physiology, particularly diet and nutrition, has enabled us to thoroughly research the most important functional ingredients to put in our drink.”
So what is the next step in their journey?
After creating the recipe, branding and production plan with UK industry professionals, they are now raising £12,000 to launch their first full production run.
They are also committing the first £1,000 of profit to The Guernsey Sports Commission’s supporting programmes that help young people stay active, healthy and confident.
