The Whittaker Bursary 2026
Are you a Guernsey student interested in getting up to £5,000 / year in bursary support? No job ties, just funding for your future
The Whittaker Trust was established in Guernsey by the late Dr Mary Whittaker to award bursaries to selected students studying an undergraduate / postgraduate degree in Medicine, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or similar STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects / courses. This could include Digital / AI / Computing-based study.
Last year the Trust made three awards, and for the coming academic year it hopes to offer even more to locally qualified students (UG, PG or equivalent level).
The Trust has increased the bursary from £3,950 to a maximum of £5,000 per year of study for courses starting in 2026, subject to appropriate progress being made each year.
Typically it will be paid in two equal tranches during the academic year. However, the payment schedule may be altered depending on the course and your circumstances. You will be responsible for declaring the award to any relevant authorities.
Unlike some bursaries, the award is free of any commercial interests and you will not have any requirements placed on you concerning employment after your studies; you must, however, be a Guernsey resident.
All decisions concerning an award are at the sole discretion of the trustees who reserve the right to offer variants of the above if they feel it appropriate. The trustees will give particular consideration to how an award will help applicants and the difference it will make to their finances.
