The Véyaon Awards

Celebrating innovation and entrepreneurship in Guernsey! The Véyaon Awards are an opportunity to celebrate excellence, innovation and hard work within the business community. 

The awards provide a platform to celebrate some of Guernsey's successful home-grown ventures and business champions.  Véyaon (pronounced vay-on), meaning ‘Go for it!’ in Guernésiais, aims to inspire our local entrepreneurs and innovators to come forward to showcase their successes.  With a variety of awards, covering topics of entrepreneurialism, upskilling, leadership, technology and innovation, the night is a real celebration of Guernsey's business and entrepreneurship ecosystem. 

The 2024 Véyaon Awards celebrated excellence, innovation, and entrepreneurship across our island community at a night to remember in November. And we are thrilled to announce the winners:

2024 Award Categories:

Creative Entrepreneur of the Year - sponsored by TPA

Celebrating entrepreneurs in the creative sector who have ‘gone for it’ in 2024. 

Nominees should demonstrate ambition, success and impact of their business activity. 

For example: 

  • Delivering a creative project or industry-leading work.
  • Introducing a new way of working to improve your business. 

Creative sector includes but is not limited to advertising, architecture, art & design, digital media, fashion, film, music, publishing and TV.

Judges are looking for the following:

  • Innovation in the business
  • Examples of work/ project success
  • Positive feedback from clients, stakeholders, employees

Digital Leader of the Year - sponsored by Sure Business

Celebrating digital leaders who have ‘gone for it’ in 2024. 

Do you want to nominate someone who has been a great digital leader this year?  Nominees should be individuals who have shown successful leadership with a digital focus. 

For example:

  • Empowering teams within an organisation to innovate using new technology.
  • Effecting culture change to embrace digital.
  • Cultivating a supportive workplace for reskilling and upskilling.
  • Embracing and championing digital transformation. 

They may be a head of a company, team or a project lead within an organisation.

Judges are looking for evidence of:

  • Successful leadership and management styles
  • Positive staff engagement in new digital programmes
  • Successful delivery of project(s)

Consider the nominee’s knowledge, skills and mindset and how they applied these attributes as a digital leader.

Disrupter of the Year - sponsored by C5 Alliance

Celebrating businesses that have changed the way their industry sector operates.  

Nominate a business that can demonstrate the positive disruption they have caused through things like: 

  • Innovative business model 
  • First mover advantage
  • Market-changing concepts

Judges are looking for evidence of:

  • Innovative thinking
  • Market-changing concepts or approaches
  • Horizon-scanning techniques that spot early-stage opportunities 
  • Methods to champion change and challenge the status quo

Entrepreneur for Good - sponsored by Islands Insurance

Celebrating social entrepreneurship and positive action in mission-based businesses. 

Nominees should be entrepreneurs whose business contributes to public good, or someone who runs a nonprofit that can demonstrate a sustainable business model.  This could include founders of organisations with a mission to create and sustain social value, with a measurable impact for good. 

Judges are looking for evidence of:

  • Positive impact on society, community and/or environment
  • Sustainable business model
  • Innovation in products, services or processes
  • Clearly defined mission statement and KPIs

Excellence in Resilience - sponsored by Armstrong Resilience

Celebrating businesses that have shown resilience in 2024.

Nominate a business that has overcome adversity this year. 

For example: 

  • Successful recovery 
  • Overcoming challenges
  • Having the ability to pivot into new areas

Judges are looking for evidence of:

  • A real business challenge and how it was addressed and overcome
  • Examples of business attributes that contribute to resilience
  • Benefits realised through the resilience demonstrated

Innovation in Customer Experience - sponsored by Resolution IT

Celebrating businesses who have delivered outstanding customer services. 

Nominate a business that is using digital technology to improve existing or create new customer service experiences.  

For example: 

  • Efficiencies in delivery
  • More effective ways of keeping your customers happy
  • Developing proactive solutions for your customers
  • Meeting their unique needs
  • Improving their relationship with your business

Judges are looking for evidence of:

  • Innovation in the solution or its application
  • Benefits realised through the implementation - for example, increased customer satisfaction or retention, new business opportunities or competitive advantage

Innovation in Technology - sponsored by PwC

Celebrating innovation that harnesses technology to deliver business results.  

Nominate a project within your business that showcases technology-driven innovation. This could be internal to your organisation or customer facing.

Judges are looking for evidence of:

  • Use of technology
  • Innovation in the solution
  • Benefits realised by the project - for example, new business opportunities, competitive advantage, etc.

Learner of the Year - sponsored by JT

Celebrating people who have invested in their personal development and learning in 2024.  

Nominate individuals who understand the importance of upskilling for the future of work and have committed time and energy to learn new skills.  

Entrants can be individuals of any age (14+) who are extending their knowledge for the future of work, including those studying STEAM subjects.  For example: 

  • A school pupil from 14+ who has taken part in an extracurricular activity, such as the Digital Innovator Programme
  • A college/university student
  • An intern in the digital or creative sector
  • An individual in employment who is upskilling or extending their knowledge in an exciting way. 

All entrants must be undertaking or have undertaken a programme of study within the last 12 months.  

Judges are looking for evidence of:

  • Courses undertaken / qualifications achieved
  • Application and impact of learning in your own context / plans to use learning going forward
  • Pro-active personal development goals for the future

Sustainable Growth Award - sponsored by Specsavers

Celebrating growing businesses in 2024. 

Nominate a business that has demonstrated success through strong and sustainable growth, for example job creation, increased revenue and extended market reach.  

Judges are looking for evidence of:

  • Sustainable growth of the business
  • Operational growth and/or job creation
  • Innovation in products, services or processes
  • Strong direction with clearly defined objectives for development

Bill Green Award for Entrepreneurial Innovation - Awarded by Young Business Group

Presented annually by the YBG, the Bill Green Award aims to elevate local businesses into the spotlight and this year will – once again – be awarded as part of the prestigious Véyaon Awards ceremony on 21st November. 

Once more, the Bill Green Award is seeking out the best of Guernsey’s ‘Thriving Innovators’.

The YBG encourages applications from businesses of any age, delivered by an individual or team that can demonstrate how their product, service, initiative or sense of entrepreneurial spirit is thriving.

The award is open to all forms of public, private and third sector organisations, including new and previous applicants from other Véyaon award categories.

Awards Evening: 21st November 2024

The winners of each category were announced live at The Véyaon Award ceremony on Thursday 21st November 2024 at Beau Sejour.  The evening consisted of a 3-course dinner, keynote speaker, awards presentations and a band.
