Renew Guernsey

Join us for a day-long sustainability hackathon on Zero Energy Buildings with Renew Guernsey.

In this 'open source' hackathon, attendees will be developing ideas and prototypes for a Zero Energy Buildings rating application! This potential online tool could help homeowners gauge their energy efficiency based on the energy generation and energy usage in their homes to encourage all islanders to be energy positive.

Zero Energy Buildings produce as much energy as they use through renewable energy devices and energy conservation. Paul and Jack Fletcher, Founders of Renew Guernsey will be guiding us through how renewable energy can help reverse climate change and provide energy security in this sustainability hackathon.

Register on Eventbrite via the 'Book Now' button above to attend.

More details on the setup of the day to follow.

"We want to forge relationships between the digital and renewable energy communities, and engaging ordinary islanders in reversing climate change, creating energy independence and reducing their energy costs."

My involvement in the energy scene stretches back to 1982, and I have worked in the renewables and energy efficiency business full-time since 1993. My wealth of experience and deep understanding of energy systems means a lot of my time has been spent on researching and developing new system equipment, techniques and methodologies. I am presently working on how to rapidly roll out renewables as that is key to reversing climate change, creating energy security and democratisation of energy - and part of that involves 100% digitalisation of our business. We have a digital wish list of apps we want developed and I am very keen on bringing together the digital, green finance and renewable energy communities to achieve that and more.

Many of the biggest challenges we face as a society and as a global community arise from how we power our lives. That’s why energy has always interested me because the energy resources we use today define our very landscape tomorrow. I believe renewable energy has the potential to totally revolutionise how we live our lives and solve some of the biggest economical, geopolitical and environmental issues of our time. Day to day I am invited into all sorts of homes big and small to help resolve their energy issues, it’s a passion and a mission. Having been a part of the micro-renewables industry since its early days, I have seen it rapidly evolve into the viable and burgeoning sector it is today. As the energy transition gathers pace there are many huge challenges to overcome to ensure a successful transition to renewables occurs and within the limited time frame given by climate scientists. I see digital technologies as a hugely important solution to the transition’s hurdles and integral to the everyday running of our rapidly growing business. And at the centre of it all is people, we need highly-skilled, driven, talented people to join us with the same passion to change the world. Because after all, that’s what it’s all about.
